Our Adventure with Ben

Our adventure with Ben all started when I was looking at the animal shelter website.

I looked at the cats, and there were some great-looking ones. Then I looked at the dogs, and there I spotted the cutest dog in the whole world! I scrolled down and it said his name was Ben. I printed out some adoption forms and filled them in, hoping that my parents would think that I went through a lot of work and that they would let me keep him!

But later on that day, when my dad came home, I figured out that things don’t happen that way. He said that if we decided to adopt him it might take a few weeks to get everything ready. I went to sleep that night hoping and wishing that we would get him!

A few days later, we decided that we were going to have a sleep-over with Ben. (You can set up sleepovers if you’re not sure whether you want to adopt or not.) When I got home from school I ran all the way up the big hill, excited to see our new visitor. When I got to the house, I ran inside hoping to see Ben. But my dad was just about to leave and go get him.

My whole family drove to the shelter. We got Ben and his food and stuff and put it in the car. My dad and I walked home with Ben hoping he’d lose some of his energy! By the time we got home, Ben was tired—and so were we!

We decided to have him at our house for a week so we could find out what he was really like. After a week was up, we had made our final decision. I turned to Ben and said, “Welcome to the family, Ben!” He’s been a great dog!
