Shelter update for February 3rd

Dea, Rocky and Koko (aka Lena) are having fun together.  With his thick fur, Rocky likes to be outside a lot or maybe he’s looking for his person to pick him up.  Dea is responding to training by Kt and reports indicate she’s a smart little girl.  Koko is gaining weight steadily and her test results indicate she’s healthy.  It seems her extremely thin condition was either caused by worms or lack of proper nutrition.  Of course, she’s been wormed with the high-powered stuff Dr. Joe prefers and we’ll monitor her weight gain carefully.

Sinclair and Wally are blossoming in the Kitten Room environment where they get to observe the lobby cats as well as human activity.  Yesterday, we opened the door so they could explore the lobby/office area and seemed to enjoy the outing.  Nosy Daisy popped into their room to check it out while they were visiting her space.  At 8 1/2 years, these handsome boys will make great pets for a long time.

The incredible markings on Sucia can now be viewed by our visitors.  He’s adapting to the second cat room and can be distinguished from Snoop quite easily. Sucia is a big boy and perches on the top shelf in the southeast corner of the room where he keeps track of the goings on.

A sweet gray cat arrived yesterday and is in quarantine.  Her owner passed away last month and the family believed a neighbor wanted to take her in.  The cat didn’t know she was supposed to live with the neighbor now so went looking for a more amenable situation.  She showed up at another neighbor’s home and they brought her to us.  The family is fine with us finding a home for this nice cat.  She’s probably at least 7 and has been relegated to outdoors.  Talk about big purrs when she had a warm bed and food readily available.

The Manager at Doe Bay Resort sponsors an island nonprofit on their Thursday Pizza Nights.  The sponsorship is for a month with $1.00 of each pizza ordered donated to the nonprofit.  The shelter is the lucky nonprofit for February.  We’ve provided table tent cards to be displayed those evenings with photos of our adoptable cats and dogs.  As an added bonus, Doe Bay Resort will host a special Valentine’s Day Open Mic on February 14th.  This is promoted as a contest for the best love song performance.  Doe Bay will donate $100 to an island charity of the winner’s choice.  The audience will vote on the winner.  Anyone interested in singing a love song?  Sounds like a fun evening.  I understand their pizzas are really great!
