Part Time – Must be available afternoons from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The Mission of the Orcas Animal Protection Society is to promote the humane care of animals by operating an animal shelter, educating the public about responsible pet care, facilitating the adoption of unwanted dogs and cats into loving homes, and providing spay/neuter services to reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats.

Most Common Duties
- Feed, and care for adoptable animals, stray animals, impounded animals, isolated animals, and sick or unruly animals, as required.
- Clean community cat rooms, cages, kennels, and other work areas.
- Sweep and mop floors, wash dishes, launder animal bedding.
- Restock cleaning and animal care supplies.
- Assist shelter customers by answering phones; providing dog licenses; providing information regarding animals available for adoption; facilitate prospective adopter and animal introductions.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of dog and cat breeds.
- Knowledge of animal care, health and behavior.
- Ability to safely and humanely handle animals by adhering to guidelines and instruction at all times.
- Ability to assist shelter and veterinary staff handling animals during exams, treatments, and other medical procedures.
- Should not have health conditions that prohibit you from working with animals or handing their waste.
- Ability to lift and handle objects and animals weighing up to sixty (50) pounds
- Ability to restrain and handle animals up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to clean and an understanding of cross contamination.
- Ability to use strong cleaning agents.
- Working knowledge of various types of animal shelter equipment including dish washer and washer and dryer, computers, printers and copiers.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with supervisors, fellow staff members, volunteers and the general public.
- Ability to train and effectively direct the activities of all shelter volunteers.
