If you have lost or found a cat or dog and are unsure of what to do next, we can help. We keep a list of lost and found pets along with trying to post pictures of strays in our care on our Facebook page. Orcas APS has been able to safely reunite over 90% of stray pets with their owners.
LOST A PET?
- Contact San Juan County dispatch at (360) 378-4151 and the animal shelter at (360) 376-6777 to report your pet as missing.
- Ask friends and neighbors to keep an eye out for your pet. Ask people to checking nearby outbuildings to make sure your pet has not become trapped.
- Hang signs in the area your pet was last seen and post information on local social media pages with pictures of your pet, the area it has gone missing, date missing and your contact information.
- Please contact the sheriff dispatch and the shelter once your pet has returned home.
FOUND A PET?
- Safely secure the animal away from other pets and children. DO NOT APPROACH AN ANIMAL DISPLAYING SIGNS OF FEAR OR AGGRESSION.
- Post pictures of the found animal to local social media sites with the location found and your contact information.
- Contact the shelter at (360) 376-6777 to see if an owner has reported the animal missing. If you are comfortable transporting the animal, the shelter will ask you to bring it to the shelter to scan for a microchip.
- If you are uncomfortable transporting a dog, contact San Juan County dispatch at (360) 378-4151 to arrange transport. If the animal is a cat, you may contact the shelter regarding borrowing a cat trap.
TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR PET SAFE
- Fit all pets with properly fitting collars with current I.D. tags. Dogs should have a San Juan County license and cats should have break away collars.
- Check fences often to ensure they are secure.
- Microchip your pet to ensure it finds its way back to you no matter the circumstances.
